The Little Things #32 – A Bumper Summer Edition

Crater Lake National Park
I know we say this all the time, but I really do feel like the last few months have flown by. After starting June feeling like I was mentally wading through treacle, somehow it’s already almost September. I started this post with the best intentions back in early July, but given my tardiness, have decided to wrap the last two months into one bumper Little Things post – a summer edition, if you will. June was a mix of good intentions and low energy, with July similarly following suit, but I’m feeling much more buoyant now, so here’s hoping I remembered all the tiny, brilliant things that have happened over the last two months…

Blogging about: *insert tumbleweed here*

Making: Screen prints at Hatch Show Print in Nashville. I was in my element and thoroughly geeked out at learning about the history of Nashville’s renowned studio, that has made gig poster for everyone from Elvis Presley to Taylor Swift.

Watching: Dead to Me and Our Planet. Outside of Netflix, I saw Late Night, Rocketman, and Spiderman: Far From Home at the cinema.

Buying: Tickets to art museums, record studios, food tours and National Parks.

Reading: In June I finished reading The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin this month, along with Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams, and An American Marriage by Tayri Jones, which just won this year’s Women’s Prize for Fiction. In July I read (and absolutely loved) The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, How to Stop Time by Matt Haig, The Second Mountain by David Brooks and The End of the Day by Clare North.

Listening to: The High Low podcast and Elton John mixes, in preparation for Rocketman (which I loved).

Wearing: New/old discoveries from the back of my wardrobe – a Sunday afternoon Marie Kondo-ing gave me the push to try outfits I haven’t worn in ages, including this combo. The pink and red kick I’ve been on since 2008 is still going strong, as exhibited at the de Young and slightly more subtly, on a rainy day exploring East Nashville.

Eating: Sushi in Bend, BBQ in Nashville (well, the side dishes, at least), a delicious dinner at Husk, biscuits with peach jam and car snacks.

Enjoying: Yoga and sloshball in the park to celebrate the return of a dear friend, random sushi dates, starting a Jar of Joy, and a day in Sonoma with Team Lady Wine Bus. In July a long weekend in Guerneville was just the ticket, and somehow we also made it half way around Oregon on our July 4th road trip (the photo above was taken at Crater Lake National Park), and to Nashville and back.

Looking forward to: One last week of calm, before an almost month-long trip away from home.
