The Little Things #30 – Mexico, birthdays and sunshine

La Paz Mexico

April is my birthday month so it’s hard not to be biased about it, but this year it was indeed a corker. After the arrival of our green cards, M and I decided to pick La Paz, Mexico, for our spring vacation which was utterly wonderful. I have good intentions to write a blog post all about it but the abridged version is that it was full of sunshine, diving, good food and lots of wildlife. April also saw the return of Game of Thrones, and the dinners and watch parties that go with it. It was also the month that season two of my podcast came to an end, I travelled to New York for work again, and the sun returned to the Bay Area. Here are the big and Little Things that happened…

Blogging about: Nada, which is becoming something of a theme…
Watching: GAME OF THRONES! And yes, I’m very excited about it. Also, Avengers: Endgame which, despite feeling like I knew what was coming, I still cried like a baby at.
Making: Despite the above, this month I made a conscious effort to cut back on screen time. I had a week long break from watching TV/films and it felt good to find different ways to unwind without defaulting to zoning out in front of a screen.
Buying: Entrance to exhibitions, including one on kimonos at the Asian Art Museum, and Joan Miró at the MoMA in NYC.
Reading: Sal by Mitch Kitson, The Remaking of Journalism and Why It Matters Now, by former Guardian editor, Alan Rusbridger, To the Bright Edge of the World by Eowyn Ivey, and Becoming by Michelle Obama.
Listening to: The final episode of Non/Native, for this season at least. Season two featured some wonderful guests and I’m already looking forward to planning season three, which will return in autumn.
Wearing: Shorts, swimwear and the most wonderful sundress. La Paz was blissfully hot (sometimes a little too hot) and it made a pleasant change from San Francisco’s predominantly dreary February and March.
Eating: Guacamole and ceviche on repeat. I also went to New York at the end of the month for work, so treated myself to cookie dough and some proper British fish and chips, from A Salt & Battery.
Enjoying: A farewell dinner of Arabic comfort food at Beit Rima, getting back into my exercise groove, and seeing the band Warpaint perform a live score as part of SF Film Festival.
Looking forward to: Planning summer adventures, Lady Brunch, and celebrating our 8th (gulp!) wedding anniversary.
