The Little Things #16 – Oscars, Whole30 and New Shoes

It’s been over two years since I last wrote a The Little Things post. I stopped around the same time I withdrew from blogging, when I started a new job and prioritized spending evenings vegging out on the sofa with the cats over slogging away over a laptop. A monthly recap of all the small things that I’ve enjoyed or done, the last TLT post in August 2015 was actually all about the cats as we’d just adopted them – Florence was so tiny in that photo!

I’m definitely going to attempt to reignite this series though, as it was a lovely way to track books, events, recipes and all the other seemingly insignificant details that make up life. So without further ado, here are the little things I’ve loved during the last month…

Blogging about: The joyous combination of red and pink, featuring possibly my fave trousers of all time.
Watching: Younger and Black-ish – I have blitzed all seasons in a couple of months – plus Lady Bird and Black Panther. Also, the Oscars! Our friends host a viewing party every year and it’s always so much fun to watch the red carpet and bet on who will win.
Making: Paleo pancakes – I completed my second Whole30 during February, and while making paleo versions of sweet treats is discouraged, these healthy, three-ingredient wonders kept me going AND tasted delicious. Also, I went back to Workshop SF and took a weaving class, which was so much fun.
Buying: Neeew shoooes. I was looking for a pair of all-white trainers and ended up falling in love with an Adidas pair with red stripes. The fact that the colour matched the lipstick I was wearing at the time has (almost) nothing to do with it…
Reading: The Power by Naomi Alderman, which was my choice for book club, along with Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman, which was delightfully easy to read and left me with a weird homesickness for Tesco, of all places. Also, this Go Fug Yourself post on the Queen’s recent outing to London Fashion Week, which is hilarious.
Listening to: Motown compilations and pop music playlists. I’ve started running again and a bit of Jackson 5, Lady Gaga or Kanye really takes my mind off the fact I wish I was still in bed.
Wearing: My new trainers, along with a pair of mustard trousers I picked up in the Marks & Spencer January sales, for the grand sum of £12 – bargain!
Eating: Lots of Whole30-approved food, including pan-fried salmon, prawn curry, eggplant “parmesan” and many, many avocados.
Enjoying: A day trip to Orr Hot Springs, a couple of hours north of San Francisco. I went with a friend who had been there before – it’s the middle of nowhere with minimal internet presence and is strictly a phone-free zone, making it the perfect place to unwind. We read magazines, sunk into open-air roll top baths and enjoyed a good, girly natter.
Looking forward to: Finding a reason to wear my new Kenzo x H&M trousers – blog post coming soon on the trials and tribulations of tracking down a pair of trousers you’ve spent over a year thinking about.
