Old Favourites

Preventing a blust of wind wardrobe disaster

Today I fly back to San Francisco. I definitely have mixed feelings about this as I love my adopted city – I just wish I could scoop up our friends and family and take them back there with me. The last two weeks in the UK have been a wonderful whirlwind of quality time with loved ones, but unlike the last time I took this flight, when the fear of the unkown was almost overwhelming, there are lots of good things on the horizon and I’m looking forward to settling back into the life we’ve made for ourselves.

I have more posts to come on our British trip, but today I wanted to share an outfit that I wore just before we left San Francisco. It’s full of old favourites – pieces that I don’t even have to think about when I pluck them from the closet. Unwittingly on this particular day I ended up wearing them at the same time, but that just serves to show that old favourites can work best together.

This cotton St Michaels (aka Marks & Spencer) dress was a find from a vintage fair at Bristol Uni’s Students Union years ago, and is one of my favourite vintage pieces. I haven’t been wearing some of my 1980s dresses in San Francisco that much as, while it’s not hot by LA standards, polyester and I don’t mix well in a warmer climate. That means that this dress is one of the few to see the light of day, especially now I’ve discovered a love for jeans and separates, big time.

The bag and shoes were both gifts from brands but I can say with a hand on my heart that they are both items I would gladly buy myself ten times over – the boots in particular are so well loved that I’ve been checking the Topshop shoe department for the last couple of years waiting for a pair of buttery nubuck leather Chelsea boots to materialise so that I can (ssshh!) replace them.

Anywho, this is me and my old favourites – what are yours?

Gorgeous photos & lovely outfit – those colours suit you so much. So sorry I couldn’t catch up with you while you were over! I couldn’t get the evening off work. Hope you come back again soon though :) xxx

I hope the flight back was OK and you settle back in quickly! I’m heading home next week and can’t wait, but it does mess with my emotions! I love this outfit, SJ. I can see why they’re all favorites. I always find myself pulling out a Whistles maxi skirt or Vintage skirt I found at one of the flea markets in Bath if I can’t decide what to wear. They just work!
