The Little Things #9

The Little Things 9 CollageIt’s time for a round up of the things that have been making me happy over the last few weeks. As I type it’s raining heavily outside but we’ve been blessed with beautiful blue skies and sunny days up until this point – something that means my usual January Blues were pretty much non-existent this year.

Blogging about: Moving abroad and why you should face your fears, Patrick Swayze-inspired shirts and my fitness goals for 2015.
Watching: January ‘favourites’ videos on YouTube, Gossip Girl season three and attempting to finish what I started a few months ago and watch the last ever season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Buying: A rather fetching fedora and window shopping for a new bicycle.
Making: Vegan cookie dough bites and not-so-vegan brownies  – yum!
Reading: Lots of thrift shop books. Last week I finished The Female Eunuch by Germain Greer and I’ve just started Hungry, the memoir by plus size supermodel Crystal Renn.
Wearing: Sunglasses and ski jacket for our skiing trip to Lake Tahoe, which was a cold but incredibly beautiful place. It was my first time on the slopes and it was certainly a memorable experience.
Trying: To snack less, or at least a bit better, hence the sudden interest in vegan baking.
Eating: A week’s worth of delicious veggie chilli that Mr Ship-Shape cooked from scratch, with rice, tortilla chips, sour cream and guacamole.
Doing: some strength and condition exercises in a bid to improve my running technique, as I haven’t been out in over a week due to a rather epic blister. Less said the better…
Enjoying: Feeling settled.
Looking forward to: Our first visit of 2015 from our friends S & O, who arrive a week today. Excited doesn’t even cover it.

What little things have been making you happy recently?

Rock The Week

Fashion related (and totally non-fashion related) things that have made my world go round over the last seven days…

Homemade stocking | Ship-Shape and Bristol Fashion

  • This week has been wonderful for so many reasons, but let’s start with RTW left off last week – #SWBXmas. The South West Bloggers Network Christmas Party at The Birdcage was so much fun last Sunday afternoon. I met some lovely bloggers, ate lots of cake and my team even came second in the Christmas Quiz! Despite the community surrounding it, blogging can be quite an isolating place sometimes, so it was great to be able to meet up with old and new faces for a festive get-together.
  • Yesterday I spent the evening in Stroud with a bunch of friends for another festive feast (I could get quite used to eating a three course meal en masse every weekend!). The evening was idyllic and consisted of eating, excitement, festive jumpers, secret santa and quizes.
  • This week I’ve been busy trying to post lots before I take a break over Christmas. I wrote about the goodies I found at a recent clothes swap, as well as some fun weekend festivities, and a Christmas gift guide to accessories – technically more of a wish-list than a guide, but it could help anyone braving the high street to finish their Christmas shopping today.
  • Finally, I couldn’t have an RTW post this week without mentioning Gossip Girl‘s last ever episode, which aired on ITV2 on Wednesday. I know, I know, the show has been a little, well, ridiculous, for the last coupe of seasons, but it redeemed itself in the finale and I won’t say anymore than that in case you didn’t get a chance to watch it, but I loved it : ) If you did see it, check out this Grazia article for a look at all the small touches that made it so special.

Rock the Week

Fashion related (and totally non-fashion related) things that have made my world go round over the last seven days…

Lomography wall

  • The return of Gossip Girl. A royal wedding, the ongoing saga of Chuck and Blair, frock-tastic fashion and very pretty male cast members – what’s not to love? This week I had to restrain myself from clicking on Grazia’s Gossip Girl 100th episode spoilers – torture!
  • Getting bendy. Every Monday for the past year I’ve attended a weekly yoga class. I swear I’m about as flexible as a pencil, and the yoga classes, while relaxing, only confirm this. However, this week I was pleasantly surprised to find I really enjoyed it, wasn’t complity atrocious at it and was closer to touching my toes than I have been since I started – result!
  • Getting lost in Lomography. The only official Lomography shop in the UK outside London lives in Manchester. We went there this weekend for a gig and when I discovered this shop I was so excited I asked if I could take a photo of their amazing lomo wall, above. I wanted every camera in the shop and Mr Ship-Shape had a job persuading me to leave.
  • Post-work drinks. I’ve been out twice this week for dinner and drinks with my new colleagues – once to Start The Bus – which I bloody love, and have enjoyed wine, cider, nachos and sweet potato burgers – nom!

Whiskycats gig, Manchester

  • Dancing like a maniac to live music. As I’m quite short I tend to hide at the back or to the side of gigs, thus normally being able to see at least the heads of the people on stage, rather than being thrown around like a rag doll in the middle of a mosh pit. Last night I was at the very front of a Whiskycats gig, was able to see all the way down to the band’s trousers, see photographic evidence, above, and had a wicked time dancing with 500 other fans – brilliant Saturday night!
  • Weekend papers. If you include all the supplements (appart from Sports) these usually take me till the following Sunday to read. I love it though, even if I do get my news at a slightly slower pace! Today I have mostly been reading: Independent on Sunday.
