I had a feeling September would be a good month and after a shaky start it did not disappoint. I launched my podcast – thank you again for the lovely feedback – recorded some fantastic episodes, got some good news and had some fun nights out. Here are some of the Little Things that made it such a corker…
Blogging about: What I wore in Sydney, a Sydney travel diary with a lo-fi twist, and the launch of my new podcast!
Watching: The Homesman (so dull), Pick of the Litter (apparently documentaries about guide dog puppies make me bawl like a baby), Juliet, Naked (Nick Hornby can do no wrong), Crazy Rich Asians (fun, funny and glamorous) and on a more serious note, the testimonials of Brett Kavanaugh and Dr Christine Blasey Ford. It’s the biggest news story in the US right now and it hammers home how much sexual assault victims have to defend every little thing about their actions/character/decisions.
Making: My podcast, Non/Native! It has been a labour of love for a fair few months now, and I’m so pleased to be able to talk about it openly. Two episodes have gone live so far, so take a listen if you haven’t already done so, and lemme know what you think.
Buying: Tickets back to the UK for Christmas. I’m very, very excited, and my wallet is very, very empty.
Reading: We Are Never Meeting in Real Life by Samantha Irby, Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple, and The Alice Network by Kate Quinn. I also really enjoyed this article by Pandora Sykes for Man Repeller, which shares my sentiments regarding sharing on the internet, and this NYT article about Insta-facilitating “experiences.”
Listening to: Episode edits. M has been kind enough to show me the ropes of basic audio editing and answer numerous troubleshooting Qs, but that still hasn’t stopped me from listening to various cuts of each episode multiple times to make sure the sound is good enough.
Wearing: A new-ish jumpsuit I found in a thrift store last month. I think it’s from the 90s but looks more 70s and fits like a dream.
Eating: Leftovers – we had friends over for dinner a couple of weeks ago which was lovely, but the leftovers lasted for such a long time I was almost sick of chili by the end.
Enjoying: A fundraiser for Women’s Audio Mission featuring music by St. Beauty and Diana Gameros, gypsy jazz in the Mission, and museum dates with A at the Legion of Honor and SFMOMA.
Looking forward to: A new direction, paddle boarding, possibly one more triathlon and trips to Texas and New York.
