Summer Road Trip: The Bardot Top

Posing in HM bardot top

It’s time for the final post from my summer road trip series and just as well, since it’s nearly Christmas. It’s the winter solstice AND we leave for Iceland today, and frankly just looking at this Bardot top is giving me the chills.

When so-called Bardot and cold shoulder tops made a comeback a few seasons ago it was music to my ears. I think the shoulders and upper back are a such an attractive part of the body that often take a back seat to the trends that call for legs, midriffs or chests to be on show. I used to work with an exchange student from China who wore an olive green cold shoulder blouse to the office every week and since then I’ve made a point of looking out for them on the high street.

This particular one is from H&M and I think it’s actually supposed to be a dress or beach cover-up as it’s quite long, but I’ve worn it tucked in to a pair of old stonewashed denim shorts, with some woven white leather sandal flatforms from ASOS. Like my previous road trip outfit post, these photos were also taken in Nevada. Of all the states on our route, I was convinced I would be nonplussed by Nevada, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. It was barren and unforgiving in the heat of the sun, but the desert topography and feeling of isolation due to the lack of other cars made it feel positively cinematic.

Another perk? You can stand in the middle of the road and make your long-suffering Instagram Husband take pictures like this.
