Six Months

Vintage dress and HM bag

The passing of the bank holiday weekend (it was Memorial Day for us over here) marks six months since Mr Ship-Shape and I moved to the States. Six months! I know that I’ll no doubt be spouting the same clichéd comments when our one year anniversary rolls around in November, but I really can’t believe how quickly time has passed.

I feel so settled in San Francisco, like we’ve been here forever, and yet at the same time it feels like only a couple of months since we stepped off the plane and into our new life. We found the perfect apartment, we navigated the transport system and the city’s famous hills, made friends and shaped routines. Life is good.

Of course I miss my friends and family but Skype dates, WhatsApp group chats and Facebook Messenger have played a part in helping us keep in touch with one another, along with traditional post, which I love to send. I can’t wait to fly back to the UK for a week in July but I really do feel at home here, even though chips are crisps and roast dinners don’t exist.

In honour of making it to the six month mark, these photos were taken down at Crissy Field, a former military airfield turned beauty spot which is overlooked by the Golden Gate Bridge – San Francisco’s most famous landmark. It’s visible from numerous (high) points around the city and every time I catch a glimpse I pinch myself that this is our new home.

Ahh, thanks Tara! Yeah it’s crazy how settled we are – I know I say this every year but time has flown by so quickly this year!

Wow, congratulations on making a life for yourself out in the US. I’ve been living in London for a while now and even though it’s not quite as massive of a move for me, I still feel nowhere near as settled as you seem to be! I suppose life is what you make of it though, and it seems like you’re making the most of the US (even if they don’t have roast dinners there, hehe). xo

Thanks Sarah! I think moving to any new city is a big leap – I hope you’re enjoying London. I think it’s where we would have ended up if San Francisco hadn’t panned out :) x

Thanks Helen! The dress was a find from Beyond Retro or Rokkit in London – I forget which. I can’t believe it’s been six months – I swear every year feels like it passes quicker than the last.
