2014: Life in Outfits

2014 in outfitsIf you’d told me at the beginning of the year that I’d start it in Bristol and finish it living in San Francisco, I don’t think I would have believed you.

But here we are, just over 24 hours away from welcoming 2015 and I’m in California, getting to grips with my new city and still being gobsmacked that I don’t have to wear tights in winter.

I can’t wait to see what adventures another year will bring, but before we ring in another year, here’s a summary of my 2014 in outfits…

Jan-March 2014January / February / March

My year started in the idyllic Welsh countryside and later in January I attended a little thing called Blog Club. I miss those girls and I’m so proud that Bonjour! Blogger have helped shape a great community of South West based bloggers. February was a month for Sunday afternoon adventures and Man Repeller-esque outfits, not to mention the gems I picked up at the first of the year’s clothes swaps. In March we spent a week in San Francisco but on the blog front I was more concerned with charity shop finds and local vintage boutiques, like Bohemia on Picton Street and Stroud’s Time After Time.

April-June 2014April / May / June

In April I wrote a lot about our holiday to San Francisco. It was my first time in the city and the trip was part recon, part relaxation time. It was also the month that I wrote about my self-imposed ban on Primark, a ban that I’ve maintained now for nearly two years. May is a special month as it’s when Mr Ship-Shape and I celebrate our wedding anniversary, and this year we made it to the three year mark. I wrote a little about the beauty rituals of our wedding day and also revealed the craft project I finally completed in time for our anniversary, while finding the time to ponder what a 1930s librarian might wear… June was the month I outed myself as a feminist and discussed the links between fashion blogging and feminism. I always go into festival overdrive at this time of year so there was also a floral crown DIY on the blog, as well as four festival-proof hair ideas.

July-Sept 2014July / August / September

Summer kicked off with freshly made memories of Glastonbury Festival and my current approach to fitness, plus another collaboration with Dr Martens. There wasn’t too much fashion on the blog in August as Mr Ship-Shape and I went on the holiday of a lifetime to Uganda to visit our friends, though I did find time to try my hand at the whole sports luxe thing in Leigh Woods. September is time to observe a new season of trends and I teamed up with Cabot Circus on this red-inspired co-ords look. It was also the month I waxed lyrical about my favourite modern feminist reads and cycling with Repsycho.

Oct to Dec 2014October / November / December

I’m almost sure this has been the craziest three months of my life to date. It started with Bristol Doors Open Day, where this relaxed Western-inspired outfit was photographed, followed by a reflection on 10 years of living in Bristol when I found out that we had a bit of a life-changing situation on the cards. November was about packing as much fun stuff into our time left in the UK as possible. This involved working through my Bristol Bucket List, attending fun blogger events and shooting this autumnal outfit with the brilliant Charlene Lim. It was also the month we moved to the States, so I spent a fair amount of time thinking about all the exciting things that were ahead of me. And that brings us to December. We have an apartment, we’re making new friendships and I’m spending a lot of time in thrift stores. I can’t wait to see what 2015 has in store for us.

To readers old and new, thank you for taking the time to read my little blog. I hope you have a fantastic New Year and that your 2015 is filled with love, happiness and all kinds of awesomeness.

What an amazing year that you have had and how fantastic to be in California! You have some lovely outfits. I am definitely with you on not buying in Primark and you have proved that you don’t need Primark to look good. Happy New Year and looking forward to more great outfits and posts in 2015.

Thank you :) I’m much happier without it and have been curbing spending in places like H&M too. I still have a few Primark items hanging around in my wardrobe that I love to wear, but I feel like my shopping habits are taking a step in the right direction now.
