1930s Librarian Identity Crisis

Mustard skirt and tweed blazerDo you ever have days when feel as if you’re dressed as someone or something else? After I’ve dressed myself each morning I frequently compare myself to everyone from the Queen at Balmoral (I was wearing a long tartan skirt, quilted jacket and paisley scarf at the time) to a tree, when I accidentally paired brown trousers with a green jumper.

This particular outfit makes me think of an archaeologist or librarian from the 1930s, albeit a rather scruffy one who hasn’t ironed her clothes! The skirt is an ancient Primark number that has been sat waiting for me to mend a ripped seam for about 18 months. I always put off mending clothes which is silly as all it takes is a needle, thread and the length of a Modern Family episode to repair.

These photos were taken on a stroll around the Clifton Downs, a vast expanse of flat green space overlooking the Avon gorge. It’s a popular spot for summer picnics and running clubs but the vast space means you never feel crammed in like sardines.

Fancy dandelion shotAs Mr Ship-Shape and I were away from prying eyes, I thought I’d have a crack at capturing the delicacy of blowing dandelion heads into the frame of the camera, which resulted in taking over 30 photos to get the shot above. It seemed like such a simple idea at the time but resulted in a lot of laughing as we tried to time the shot correctly. Scroll down to see some comedy outtakes from this arty attempt…

It’s funny, isn’t it? At the weekend I felt like I was channelling a country and western singer (which you can see in my latest post) and today I feel like an extra from The Craft…

Thanks Maria – it was more laughing at myself though as it was hilarious to utterly fail at something that in theory seemed so simple! x

Nothing wrong with dressing like a 1930s librarian or any other ‘character’. I have a friend whose style we once defined as ‘sexy french Geography teacher.’

Thanks Tara! I found that scarf at the Ashton Gate flea market a few years ago – I need to go back there to add some more to my collection :)
