USA Beauty Shopping Spree

USA beauty shopping spreeWhen I went on holiday to San Francisco in March (yep, still going on about it), I couldn’t help but check out the infamous ‘drugstore’ make-up I’ve heard so much about on YouTube. I also treated myself to a few higher end purchases – one before our flight had even left the airport – so I thought I’d share my shopping spree with you.

You can’t travel to the US and not pick up a little MAC, right? With the brand’s lipsticks around a third cheaper in the states, I was keen to treat myself to a matte red. After a little deliberation between Lady Danger and Ruby Woo, I chose the latter as it has blue undertones and just seemed to make my face that little bit sparklier – I even got a comment from a complete stranger when I left the counter wearing it!

MAC Prep + Prime Lip

This colourless primer was an impulse purchase that the MAC make-up artist persuaded me to buy. It has the same vanilla scent as MAC lipsticks and is probably just a glorified lip balm, but it makes my lips so soft, and offers a smooth base to glide lipstick on to, preventing my lips from drying out.

Bath & Body Works hand santisers

I’ve heard people rave about these mini hand santisers and with Glastonbury coming up I couldn’t resist taking advantage of Bath & Body Work’s 5 for $5 offer. Like the colour coordinating weirdo that I am, I selected five based on colour rather than scent, picking up Island Nectar, Pink Passion Fruit, Sweet Pea, Market Peach and Wild Passion Flower.

Wet n Wild lipstick in Don’t Blink Pink

Speaking of wild, I was intrigued by the premise of USA ‘drugstore’ make-up so I decided to  indulge my growing lipstick obsession with this Wet n Wild shade. For around $3 this matte shade was a bargain, but I was unable to test it before purchase, and I must admit it’s a lot pinker than it looked inside the shop!

NYX Soft Matte Lip Creme in San Paulo, Amsterdam and Monte Carlo

Traditional matte lipsticks can be on the drying side, so the idea of a ‘liquid lipstick’ is like heaven to my ears. After picking up a Sleek ‘Matte Me’ a couple of months ago, I jumped at trying this product from NYX. These lip cremes smell delicious but they do have a tendency to smudge so I don’t know how well they’d stand up against a night of eating and drinking.

Jo Malone cologne in Earl Grey & Cucumber

I’ve been hankering after a Jo Malone scent since I was introduced to the brand at a Harvey Nichols event last year and I finally cracked at the airport. I like neither tea nor cucumbers but something about this combination just works. Earl Grey & Cucumber is a wonderfully fresh and unique scent that can be layered over other Jo Malone colognes, which is handy because…

Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia and Wild Bluebell cologne gift set

…I bought this gift set on the plane on the way home, damn you and your tempting in-flight magazine, British Airways! Wild Bluebell was one of the scents I’d had my eye on for a while and English Pear & Freesia is beautifully floral and summer-y. So now that takes my Jo Malone collection from zero to three…

I like the shades of the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creme, nothing stays on my lips for long anyway, so the smudging wouldn’t be too much of an issue! ;) Just looking at your haul feels me with the urge to hit up Sephora. ;)

Mmm, Sephora… to be honest I was so overwhelmed when I went there that I only ended up with an Urban Decay Naked palette, which was a gift for my sister! Must try harder next time…

Yessss! Though I’ve also heard good things about the Rouge Velvet thingymajigs from Bourjois – think they’ll be next on my list to try.
