Welcoming 2014

Scrabble lettersWe may be more than half way through the month, but I’m still daydreaming about my post-Christmas break to the Welsh countryside, where, in a converted cowshed surrounded by rolling hills and the occasional mountain, we said goodbye to one year and hello to the next.

This is the little house that Mr Ship-Shape and I spend a week each summer in with friends but for this break it was just the two of us, which was just the ticket after hosting Christmas. For four days we read our books by the fire, went for long walks, drank hot chocolate with miniature marshmallows and played Scrabble. It was bliss.

Our New Year’s Eve was spent taking part in a board game tournament (oh, yes, we know how to par-tay!) and a highlight of the trip was trying our hand at astrophotography, taking advantage of being away from the city. We wrapped up warm and took my camera and tripod outside to try to capture the night sky, and while our results were rather mixed – focusing in pitch black conditions isn’t easy – it was exciting to be in a place where the Plough and Cassiopeia were shining brightly.

Here are a few snapshots from our NYE adventure – how did you spend yours?

Sarah, the blog looks great!! You must be so pleased :) You’re New Year looks lovely, it’s so nice to get away with the other half, just the two of you. It’s crazy how you can live with someone but still feel that you hardly ever get to spend quality time together! At least that’s how I sometimes feel anyway. I love those boots…I’ve been searching for a similar stitched pair ever since I saw them on your blog x

Thanks! I used my regular DSLR (Canon 450D) but had it on a tripod with the highest possible ISO and widest aperture for 30 seconds. We were also in the middle of no where with no life pollution which helped a lot!
