Floral Dresses in Fremantle Square

Teal tights and tan ankle boots | Ship-Shape and Bristol Fashion

Fremantle Square in Cotham is one of my favourite places in the whole city, so I thought it would make the perfect place for an Easter weekend ‘shoot’.

After three years of blogging and over a year of outfit posts, I still feel quite self conscious having my photo taken in public, but Fremantle Square is such a quiet, relaxing place that lends itself to a bit of photography and amateur modelling. Despite overlooking the hustle and bustle of Stokes Croft, the square is rarely populated by more than a handful of local cats, aside from those rare few weeks of summer when it’s warm enough to attract the odd post-work sunbather.

Despite what the calendar says, it’s still ridiculously cold for spring, so the Topshop coat I picked up in the sale last year is getting plenty of milage. Underneath is a dress from Grandma Ship-Shape’s wardrobe. I remember her wearing it when I was very young so it must be at least 20 years old. The hem actually comes down almost to my ankles, but I can’t bear to cut it so with a little clever trickery and a wide, waist-cinching belt it can be held in place just above my knees.

It’s a weird sentiment to have about clothes – not wanting to permanently alter the shape of a dress, even though it would probably get more wear if I did take the plunge and cut it.  I think I’d feel better if I had any confidence in my woeful sewing skills! Do you own any sentimental items that you can’t contemplate making alterations to?

What a gorgeous dress – not surprised you can’t bring yourself to cut it!

Oh I do love your style. All so bright and colourful
Coloured tights look wicked with your floral dress. Wish I had the guts to wear them and look as good as you do!

Thanks Becca – you should give coloured tights a try! They’re cheap so if they don’t suit you you won’t have spent too much money :) x

Cute outfit – I like the blue and brown combo with your hair. I haven’t been up that end of town yet, but I’m sure I’ll get there eventually…

That dress is so pretty! Also recognise that square – happy memories of sitting in the sun ‘revising’ there!

Cotham is oh so pretty and so is that dress! I can get a bit sentimental about things too, I don’t think I’d alter it either…xo

I admire those who can actually get used to their picture being taken in public. After so much time, I still prefer isolated places for outfit posts. that’s a lovely bag you got & such a nice color combo!

Thank you! I was lucky that it was so quiet when I visited – living in a city means it’s not always easy to find a quiet spot :)
