Vintage Fair at The Passenger Shed

On Saturday the Vintage Fair returned to Bristol’s Passenger Shed, a stone’s throw from Temple Meads train station. By the time I turned up at 1pm the queue was already snaking around the building and up towards the station, so I joined the end of the queue, pulled my coat around my neck and crossed my fingers that it would be worth the wait.

Last time I went to this particular fair it took place at a church in Portland Square – a much smaller venue – so Beautiful Plumage and I were delighted to find that the Passenger Shed could pack in double the amount of stalls, selling everything from 50s prom dresses to art deco furniture and the obligatory tea and cupcakes.

My only grumble is that with only one well-dressed person on the door, it took about 20 minutes before we were able to pay our £2 entry fee and make our way into the fair.

Despite the vast size, the venue was buzzing in every corner, with vintage make-overs, Lindy Hopping couples and lots of shoppers. I was on a strict budget so did my best to avoid the 50s prom dresses, including a yellow one covered in sunflowers, that I’m kicking myself I didn’t at least try on.

Fortunately for me there were a few stalls with sale rails, where I found this turquoise and white polka dot dress. I also found this red and white chevron tunic dress – so out of my usual comfort zone (which according to BP is ‘folksy, flowers and nautical’) – but I love it!

The fair will return in April so I’m going to save my pennies and come back to hunt for that sunflower dress! Did any of you make it to the fair and did you find any bargains?
