…be prepared for a night of fun, glamour and one heck of a catwalk show. Last Thursday, S and I drove through the hideous wind and rain, navigating Bath’s roadworks and a minuscule car park to attend Private Vintage Club at OPA. As we entered the underground meze bar, we were unsure what to expect. What greeted us was an Aladdin’s cave of well dressed locals, glasses of champagne and the sweet smell of popcorn.
The event was an opportunity to promote local fashion talent, while bringing a healthy dash of glamour and excitement to the fasionistas of Bath – and us Bristol gatecrashers – too. Naturally I wore vintage, picking the navy sailor-inspired dress from refoundreloved that I found at Vintage Sunday last month, plus an unruly hairdo that didn’t care very much for the wet weather!
After taking in the atmosphere and making a beeline for the champers, we took our seats by the bar with Amy of Annie by Amy and had a good gossip before the catwalk show started. Private Vintage Club began last year, put together by local vintage boutique Scarlet Vintage, and independent ligerie emporium, Hannah Dulcie along with Bath’s best make-up artists, hair stylists and models.
The catwalk show began with swimwear from Princesse tam.tam and IODUS, before moving on to day lingerie and day vintage looks. I’m a firm believer in the benefits of wearing fantastic underwear, and not just for your other half. I loved the vibrant pink and yellow Pina Colada set from Mimi Holliday, as well as fluoro yellow set by La Perla. The selection of vintage clothes was just as good, with some pretty cotton dresses, some of which you can see below.
The second half of the show was dedicated to vintage evening dresses and gorgeous, daring lingerie. The only way to describe the underwear (from La Perla, Lascivious and Princesse tam.tam) is decadent and sexy – a parade of black lace and navy satin. The models looked stunning and walked with confidence, helped in part to their gravity-defying ‘dos from Artizan, and while most of the lingerie featured was out of my budget, if it came with a washboard stomach and curves in all the right places, I’d definitely be buying! : ) The vintage dresses included a mix of short 60s shift dresses and longer numbers, like the white 70s Grecian feather dress that floated down the catwalk.
The show closed with a cheeky sashay down the runway from a gorgeous burlesque dancer, and was followed by drinks, music and mini desserts served by retro usherettes. I wish we could have stayed longer as I had such a fun evening!
